Your Work:

As a member of Metabiota’s Platform Engineering team, you will be a key contributor as a DevOps Engineer  responsible for efficient development of leading edge computational products enabling a novel epidemic and pandemic risk focused applications and data ecosystem for a variety of critically important use cases.  The architecture is based on a pipeline of highly scalable and distributed infrastructure components and services ranging from various data ingestion, scalable big data platform, analytics engines, data warehousing and external facing services. You will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with a truly global cross functional team including SF-based product leaders, modelers, data scientists and epidemiological scientists.

You understand the importance and impact that good operations can have on the rest of a product and the positive ripple effects that it can have across an entire engineering organization. You are a quick-learner who is motivated to automate complex systems with collaboratively designed tools and processes.


Specifically, you have:

  • A Computer Science/Master of Science/engineering degree
  • Knowledge of best practices and operations in always-up, always-available services based on Big Data and Web Technologies with Micro-service  Architecture.
  • Experience with source control branch, branching strategies and automating branch management
  • Experience with maintaining build frameworks for multi-language (java, scala, python, R) / multi-platforms (linux, docker, hadoop) projects
  • Familiar with test frameworks (cucumber, karma) and integrating tests into jenkins CI
  • Familiarity with system automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef or equivalent.
  • Experience writing automation tools and integrating with existing open-source solutions. Writing plug-ins and new features in Jenkins, Gradle, Puppet gets you excited!
  • Strong scripting skills, preferably in python, ruby or bash.
  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Collaborative design and peer-reviews are bread-and-butter of our engineering culture!
